"The Walking Dead" midseason finale shocked its viewers with a veteran character's death and they also accidentally spoiled it for the other half of their fanbase!

The AMC show wrapped up the year with a heartbreaking death, triggering a sorrowful uproar on social media from viewers of the show.

Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) said goodbye to fans when she was shot in the head by Officer Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods) during an intense standoff.

According to Undead Walking, Beth was already rumored to die in the midseason finale but the horror series allowed fans to relax during the hour-long episode before pulling the trigger that sealed her fate at the last possible second.

As soon as Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) came out of the hospital carrying the Beth's dead body, cries of outrage and grief filled Twitter.

A fan tweeted, "NO WTF NO THEY JUST KILLED BETH. WTF BETH IS GONE. HOW COULD THEY DO THAT. THIS IS COMPLETE BS!!!"

Another could only muster a "BETH IM CRYING" tweet which was similar to several viewers' reactions.

One fan managed to find humor in the situation, posting, "Well at least Maggie can go back to not caring about Beth now."

However, Beth's death gave fans more heartbreak when "The Walking Dead" midseason finale was spoiled on the show's official Facebook page right after the episode aired on the East Coast. A photo of Daryl cradling a dead Beth in his arms with the caption "RIP Beth" was released just before it was aired on the West Coast.

According to US Weekly, one Facebook follower angrily wrote, "This is the dumbest post I've ever seen from an official fb page. Spoiling a major plot point for millions of your fans? Someone should be fired over this."

The spoiler was promptly deleted then uploaded again after a few hours.

AMC later issued an apology to "The Walking Dead" fans for the controversial post.

"We heard your feedback to last night's post, and we're sorry. With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler," the network said through the show's Facebook page.

The announcement added, "Please know we're going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead. As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support."

"The Walking Dead" will come back on February 8, next year.
