Which smartphone is the better purchase? We compare the iPhone 4S and the Sony Xperia SP to see which is worth the purchase.
For the design and display, the Sony Xperia SP's display is a TFT measuring 4.6 inches, which supports a resolution of 720x1280pixels and pixel density of 319ppi. In addition, it combines with the Mobile Bravia Engine 2 to offer users a much better user experience. Its dimensions are 130.6×67.1x10 mm and it weighs 155 grams.
The iPhone 4S has a smaller display of 3.5inches (LED-backlit IPS LCD) with a lower resolution of 640x960pixels, but it supports a higher pixel density of 330ppi. Its dimensions are 115.2×58.6×9.3 mm, and weighs 140 grams.
In terms of hardware and OS, the Sony Xperia SP comes with a 1.7GHz dual core Krait processor (Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon chipset + Adreno 320 GPU), 1 GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB). The smartphone runs on the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, upgradable to the 4.4.4 (KitKat) version.
Menawhile, Apple's iPhone 4S has a 1GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor (Apple A5 chipset + PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU), but it has only 512MB of RAM and three variants of internal storage: 8/16/32/64GB, which can’t be expanded. It rans on the iOS 5, which was upgraded to the iOS 7.1.2 version, and it’s planned to be upgraded to the latest iOS 8 version.
For battery and camera specs, both smartphones have non-removable batteries: the Sony Xperia SP has a Li-Ion 2370mAh battery, which should allow up to 19 hour of talk time on 3G. The iPhone 4S on the other hand, has a Li-Po 1432mAh battery that lasts 734 hours in stand by mode in 3G, and it allows only 8 hours of talk time on 3G.
They also have 8MP rear shooters with 3264x2448pixels, autofocus, LED flash and other mutual features such as geo tagging, touch face, HDR, panorama, face and smile detection and video recording capabilities at 1080p@30fps. Plus, they both have VGA secondary cameras.
The Sony Xperia SP cost $233 in amazon.com, while the iPhone 4S 16GB variant costs $345 dollars and the 32GB variant is almost $30 more expensive.
