The movie holds the highest opening in 2014 so far. It topped the US box office with a whopping $123M during its opening weekend.
As Variety noted, the film is expected to still continue doing well in the box office locally and worldwide.
"The latest chapter in Lionsgate's futuristic franchise should make more than $20 million in its third weekend of release, which will be good enough for a first place finish. If projections hold, it will mark the third consecutive weekend in which "Mockingjay - Part 1″ tops charts."
"The Jennifer Lawrence starrer is approaching $500 million in worldwide sales."

But how does the movie compare to the first two "Hunger Games" movies? Movie Pilot had this to say:
"There is absolutely no debate about Jennifer Lawrence's acting. She accurately portrayed conflicting emotions and the fears of a 17 years old Katniss. The sense of loss, and overcoming the loss with the burning rage of revenge on the Capitol. The dark, deep, haunting symphony for "The Hanging Tree" was one of the biggest highlights for the movie (The song is now in the UK Top 40). You can actually feel the impending apocalypse ending for Panem!"
"This movie is not for you if:
1. You did not watch the first 2 parts of the Hunger Games. Mockingjay Part 1 will make absolutely no sense to you.
2. You like the Games Arena concept in the first 2 movies. There is none in Part 1."
