Tips For Weight Loss Success: Don’t Eat At Night?

It's difficult to find the right tips for healthy weight loss success.

One simple tip for those looking to shed a few pounds is to try not to eat at midnight, according to a new study.

Researchers from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies have reportedly found evidence that when you eat is as important as what you choose to eat for successful weight loss, according to the Tech Times.

For the new study, which was published in the journal Cell Metabolism, around 400 mice were reportedly fed diets high in sugar or fat or both, or normal diets and over different time periods, according to BBC News. The results were shocking as the mice that were only allowed to feed for nine or 12 hours gained less weight than mice that were allowed to eat the same amount of food but at any time they wanted in a 24-hour period.

When the mice that were restricted were permitted to eat whenever they wanted to on the weekend, their weight loss wasn't as much of a success; however, when the obese mice were put on a more restricted eating schedule, they reportedly lost 5% of their body weight even though they were eating the same calories as before.

Researchers reportedly believe that an important tip for controlling weight gain could be sticking to a consistent 12-hour fast every 24 hours. Aside from the weight loss, the mice that were subject to time-restricted feeding (TRF) reportedly enjoyed more health benefits than the animals that were able to eat whenever they wanted.

"TRF stabilized and reversed the progression of metabolic disease in mice with preexisting obesity and type II diabetes," the researchers wrote.

They continued, "We establish clinically relevant parameters of TRF for preventing and treating obesity and metabolic disorders, including type II diabetes, hepatic steatosis, and hypercholesterolemia."
