Former President George W. Bush's daughter Jenna recently revealed that her father is a Jay-Z fan, although he may shy away from the Kanye West's music. Ring any bells? Back in 2012, The Atlantic asked President Barack Obama if he preferred Kanye West of Jay-Z's music - he happily responded "Jay-Z." Looks like the two presidents may share more in common than you'd think!
Despite their fiercely different political ideas, George W. Bush and Barack Obama share on thing in common: music taste. More specifically, they both get down to some Jay-Z!
While appearing on BRAVO's "Watch What Happens Live," Jenna Bush Hager played a game with host Andy Cohen that involved dissecting her father's music taste.
As the former first daughter played "Daddy Like Or Take A Hike?", she was asked what her father's feeling were about hip-hop music.
"He's not a big Kanye fan," Bush Hager answered, referring to Kim Kardashian's husband AKA rapper Kanye West. "If you remember, there was a little tension," she said.
Jenna quickly added, "But he likes Jay-Z!"
So why the aversion to Yeezy?
Perhaps it was the televised rant by Kanye West during a 2005 Hurricane Katrina fundraiser, in which the rapper claimed "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
On the other hand, President Obama has never outright suggested any tension with Mr. West, but he's clearly stated that he prefers Jay-Z's music to the "Yeezus" rapper's songs.
According to MTV, when "asked by the Atlantic whether he preferred Kanye West or Jay's music, the president smiled and said, 'Jay-Z.'" Not to mention, Jay-Z personally rallied for Obama when he was just a candidate. Besides have "Jay-Z on his iPod," the men seem to have developed a bond over the years.
On September 1, 2012, during Jay's Made In America Festival show in Philly, he surprised fans with a special message from President Obama.
"To me, the idea of America is that no matter who you are, what you look like or where you come from, you can make it if you try. Jay-Z did it...He didn't come from power or privilege. He got ahead because he worked hard, learned from his mistakes and just plain refused to quit. That's what 'made in America' means," said Obama.
Later that month, at an election fundraiser thrown by Beyonce and Jay, Obama elaborated on the men's connection.
"Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like...We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are ... So we've got a little bond there. It's hard, but it's okay," joked President Obama.
While it may be hard to believe, Barack Obama and Jay-Z are indeed friends - texting friends. Check out the video below in which Jay talks about how he "spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama."
Now its possible that Obama and Bush may never agree on a lot of things when it comes to politics, but the men do share an appreciation for Jay-Z and his music.
Will Bush ever be as tight with Jay as Obama is? Doubtful, but he can try. We wish him luck. He could use a little swagger in his life.
