Yoo Seung Ho has committed to his first post-army role. The actor, who was honorably discharged from his two years of mandatory military duty this week, has definitely signed on to appear in the film known as "The Joseon Magician."
The actor began to cry at the ceremony for his military discharge, which was attended by many fans. He said that he always used to wonder why soldiers cried when they were discharged but now he knew. It was hard to express in words how he felt at leaving his fellow officers.
"Kids around my age are still in there serving their country and although I, myself have been through the physical and mental stress of everything for 21 months, I feel bad for those who have more to do," he said. "I am grateful to my squad leader. Although I got yelled at a lot and I yelled a lot to my juniors, they are all now memories that only we can have. I cried at the thought of them becoming mere memories."
He said that the memories have inspired him to become an actor who radiates happiness.
"I want someone to happily watch my work but also to be impressed and maybe transformed by it," he said. "That's my dream and I have decided to take another step with this."
His upcoming film, "The Joseon Magician," is the story of a Joseon Dynasty princess who is on her way to marry someone in China's Qing Dynasty. En route to her new husband, the princess meets and falls for a young magician of a circus troupe.
Go Ara is rumored to be considering the role of the princess.
At the military press conference Yoo Seung Ho apologized for spending so much time talking about his military experience.
"I heard that women hate military stories the most, but this is all I can think about at the moment," he said. "Just think of it as your little brother whining."
He should not have too much trouble getting women to listen to his military stories. Two popular actresses have already expressed an interest in working with him.
Kang So Ra, who worked with him in the 2009 film "Fourth Period Mystery," has expressed a desire to film with him again.
"I was a rookie and he was much more experienced than me so it was hard for me to approach him," Kang So Ra said of their first film together. "Now, if it's alright, I want to work with him again in something romantic."
In an interview with InStyle magazine Park Shin Hye said that she thought Yoo Seung Ho was cute before she met him but then realized he was quite "mature and manly." She would welcome co-starring in a romantic comedy with him.
