"The Big Bang Theory" season 8 star Jim Parsons will star in the new NBC animated special "Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas," and the actor is perfect for the role, with due respect to SNL legend Will Ferrell.

Lynsey Eidell wrote for Glamour magazine that it's going to be difficult to trump Will Ferrell's performance in the "Elf" movie because nobody "does a Santa freak-out or an impromptu Christmas-gram like Ferrell in green tights."

With that said, she thinks that "The Big Bang Theory" season 8 cast Jim Parson's voice "is perfect for this role; it's the ideal combination of enthusiasm, humor, and sweet dorkiness that made us fall in love with Buddy in the first place," she wrote.

"Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas" has the same premise as Will Ferrell's movie as Buddy will leave the safe havens of the North Pole to travel to New York City to try to find his father.

The synopsis of the 2003 movie reads, per IMDB: "Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs. Hobbs, on Santa's naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter's relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities."

The Entertainment Weekly published a clip of the new special starring "The Big Bang Theory" season 8 cast Jim Parsons. The publication also released a description: "In this scene from the holiday special, the Big Bang Theory actor voices the overgrown elf follows his disbelieving father through the park in a bid to win him back over to the good side of Santa's list."
