Good news Power Rangers fans as new updates for the Power Rangers movie reboot have been revealed.

To start off, we have three actors to play the villains in the Power Rangers movie reboot as reports from MTV News claim that Academy Award winner and "Into the Woods" star Meryl Streep is rumored to play the evil alien witch Rita Repulsa, while ComicBookMovie.com reported that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star Michael Fassbender and "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy are cast as the evil galactic conqueror Lord Zedd, and the ferocious alien general Goldar.

It already been reported by MTV that Liam Hemsworth, Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael B. Jordan are the first batch of rangers in the film as the Red, Pink and Green (or White) Rangers, while People.com reports that Brenda Song, Jamie Bell, and Donald Glover will the fill the role of the Yellow, Blue, and Black Rangers. Liam Neeson will go on to play Zordon in the movie as reported by ComicBook.com.

Also, two veteran Power Ranger stars Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson are also on board. ComicBook.com interviewed Frank saying that he expected some level of involvement in the reboot coming from Lionsgate, though it’s unclear how big a part he’ll play.

“I probably will be involved. They talked to me about it,” he said. “I don’t know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie.”

As for Amy Jo Johnson, she expressed her interest in the Power Rangers movie reboot and gleefully saying she wanted a cameo in the project in an interview with The Verb.

Lastly, there have been rumors that Transformers director Michael Bay will handle the director chair for reboot.

According to reports from Kpopstarz (via SchmoesKnow), Michael Bay was one of the few people chosen in writing the script for the reboot, replacing "Chronicle" screenwriter Max Landis, although it is not clear yet whether Bay will actually direct the movie.

It was reported by Screenrant that Landis had no plans on making the new Power Rangers and yet submitted a draft for the movie, but Power Ranger Fans didn't like Landis writing the script going so far as to say he's "unlikely choice".

Another fan commented on Landis being in the Power Rangers movie in report from Cinema Blend saying that;

"I don't think Landis is right for the part in writing this thing out, it's a hard thing getting the right writer for a good job but in the end I think whoever directs will have to take it in the right direction."

"I'm not familiar with Chronicle but i think we need a screenwriter who can capture the fun nostalgia and colorfulness of the original PR's."

The fan further adds that;

"Chronicle is pretty much the polar opposite. It's dark and gritty, and takes a realistic tone to a bunch of teens acquiring super powers. Which, frankly, would completely ruin the Power Rangers, since cheesiness and colorfulness are the reason they're popular in the first place."

The Power Rangers Movie reboot will be produced by both Lionsgate and Saban and it is expected to be released on July 22, 2016.
