In the midst of the mounting sexual assault allegations made against comedian Bill Cosby, there has been one person the public has been very curious about — his wife of fifty years, Camille.
“The Cosby Show” star broke his silence regarding the sexual assault allegations over the weekend during an interview with The New York Post and chose to praise his wife in the process.
“Love and the strength of womanhood,” stated Bill Cosby explaining how Camille has handled the multiple sexual assault allegations that have surfaced, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 77-year-old comedian added, “Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love.”
Before his recent interview, Bill Cosby and his wife had both remained silent regarding the allegations that have surfaced, as the comedian’s lawyers have reportedly been the ones speaking against the accusations.
“They don’t want me talking to the media,” Cosby stated in a brief phone interview with Page Six on Friday, according to TIME.
Bill Cosby further addressed the media’s response to the resurfaced sexual assault allegations against him by stating, “Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism, and when you do that, you have to go in with a neutral mind.”
Supermodel Beverly Johnson was reportedly the most recent victim to add her name to the growing list of women who have accused the comedian of either drugging or sexually assaulting them in the past. Johnson reportedly wrote in Vanity Fair about her experience after meeting Cosby in the 1980s.
Johnson alleged that she “knew by the second sip of the drink Cosby had given me that [she’d] been drugged.”
The actress reportedly called Cosby to confront him, but gave up after reaching his wife.
“I didn’t call back the next day or any other day after that,” wrote Johnson.
She added, “At a certain moment it became clear that I would be fighting a losing battle with a powerful man so callous he not only drugged m, but he also gave me the number to the bedroom he shared with his wife.”
