John Constantine may be an abrasive, egotistical jerk but when it comes to the innocent he will do whatever he can to save them - even offering up his own life to do so. Read on for the "Constantine" midseason finale recap here!
John gets a blast from the past when an old flame asks for help in solving a kidnapping that has nothing to do with the human realm.
He leaves Zed behind, instructing her to continue resting after touching a fallen angel's heart. His stubbornness to bring her along, however, will only cause the mysterious psychic to be found by the people she has been running away from.
Meanwhile, John's friend, Anna Marie, summoned him to Mexico due to a missing baby with its mother's throat ripped off. Getting over the shock that his ex-lover has now become a nun, he figures out that the baby-stealing culprit was actually Eve's youngest sister, the baby-eating Lamasthu.
However, she hasn't made the baby her dinner yet and instead stole another baby, all from the same bloodline. They lure the evil creature by disguising a dead chicken as another infant. It turns out to be one of the sisters in Anna Marie's convent.
After a confrontation with Lamasthu herself, John finds out that the creature was actually gathering descendants of the Brujeria, an ancient cult of South American warlocks planning to take over the world. The ancient group is also the ones behind the Rising Darkness that he has to stop.
John and Anna Marie manage to save the babies from Lamasthu in this "Constantine" midseason finale recap. However, an invunche - the evil creature that Zed had been drawing earlier - puts their life in danger.
For the first time ever, John admits that he doesn't know what to do but Anna Marie does. In order to save the babies, he shoots John as a sacrifice for the invunche.
Back at the hideout, people from Zed's past tries to take her back to their "Father." They also call her Mary but she denies the name. Clearly, she doesn't want to go back putting up a fight, but she eventually succumbs to the cult member-like goon.
With new information about the Rising Darkness, John and Zed's past, as well as a look into the tortured soul of our main character, this "Constantine" midseason finale was enough to keep fans interested in the show that was previously in danger for cancellation. Hopefully, ratings will pick up when the show resumes in January.
