The special 2015 episode of Sherlock would still air after reports of the Sherlock season 4 release date is going to be delayed to 2017.

According to the report of the Fantasy TV Scoop, The Sherlock season 4 release date was reportedly delayed to 2017 after scheduling conflicts of the show's production and the shooting of the Dr. Strange film.

Previously, The Epoch Times has reported that the Sherlock season 4 release date is on January 2016 and that the Sherlock season 4 will have three episodes and an additional one-off episode.

That special one-off episode is going to be the much anticipated Christmas episode which will likely air in 2015, according to Martin Freeman.

With all this confusion about the Sherlock season 4 release date delay rumors, fans are starting to lash out and they've been unhappy as to why the season 4 of Sherlock can't air this 2015.

"MarkToy" on IMDB said "I love Cumberbatch but that dude is seriously the reason why we won't be getting new episodes anytime soon".

While a user on Facebook said this on the Sherlock Facebook page "I'm tired of waiting! 2 years for a new season? Cumberbatch is not busy at the moment but he refuses to film new episodes? That's it, I'm done with this show".

But not everyone is feeling negative about the show as co-creator Mark Gratis is happy about the Sherlock season 4 release date:

"Series Four! At last!" wrote co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss in an update.

"It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing...a Special! Not only THAT, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before...The whole 'Sherlock' team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on - again!"

Steven Moffat added "A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run! Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect ...."
