CW got quite a pleasant surprise earlier this month when one of the station's new shows gathered some Golden Globes 2015 nominations. "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez was also shocked to be included in the Best Actress in a TV Series nominees list.
"This is my dream. This is amazing," the proud Latina actress told Los Angeles Times about the honor she received. "This is what I've been dreaming about since I was 15 years old."
Rodriguez had been called a breakthrough artist even before the Venezuelan telenovela remake officially started airing on the CW. The show itself gathered positive reviews from various critics and media outlets.
"Jane The Virgin" is also the first CW show to get nominated in the Golden Globes.
"For it to come, and to come so soon and for a network that has never had a Golden Globe nomination, and here I am as a Latina lead. This is a beautiful thing," the dramedy's lead star shares.
However, "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez revealed that the whole show "wasn't supposed to happen."
She added, "We just showed everyone why perseverance, ambition, drive and hard work matters. We took all of that energy that we weren't supposed to succeed, and we showed them that success exists even in the most precarious corners. We rose up and it happened."
She previously shared that she took the role because she identified with Jane so much. She also wanted to become a role model for all the young Latinas.
When asked what hashtag she wanted to use to describe how she felt about the nomination, she had a lot of ideas.
"At first, I wanted to tweet: 'I woke up like this. #nominated' -- because you know that woulda been the bomb," she shared. "But I had to give my love to the Globes. But, I mean #blessed. Or #anotherfirstforJane. Or 'Thank you Golden Globes for popping my awards show cherry.'"
Despite the prestige, "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez doesn't take the show's glory all for herself.
"It's so much bigger than myself," she insisted, adding that the nomination and the show is about the cast and crew, Latinos, and "all of us."
"Jane The Virgin" is also nominated for Best TV Series - Musical or Comedy. See other Golden Globes 2015 nominations lists here, here, here and here.
