The "Pee-Wee Herman" movie has been in the shelves for quite sometime now, but new reports hinted that the misadventures of the character, played by Paul Reubens, will be hitting the big screen next year.
In a report from The Wrap, Netflix is nearing an agreement with producer Judd Apatow to distribute the "Pee-Wee Herman" movie.
"While a Netflix spokesperson cautioned that there's no deal in place yet, an individual close to the project told TheWrap 'it moved to Netflix a gazillion months ago,' it said. "Like the film's director, plot details remain unknown, though Reubens has said that there is a filmmaker in place and production could start as soon as February."
The movie was first reported to be bankrolled by Universal but was shelved for unknown reasons.
Paul Reubens was almost unrecognizable when he guested in "The Blacklist" season 2, episode 4 as Mr. Vargas, a muscle for the underground who specializes in resolving delicate situations. The actor was wearing a turtleneck and a black wig that gave his character an even more menacing and creepy appearance. The actor was once arrested in 1991 for indecent exposure.
According to Indie Revolver, Paul Reubens have announced earlier this year about the "Pee-Wee Herman" movie getting close to be produced.
"We now have an amazing company involved, and that's the really big announcement that hasn't been made yet," he said, and the website noted that the studio the actor was referring to was apparently Netflix.
The streaming service has been getting noticed for its production of critically acclaimed series "House of Cards" and "Orange of the New Black."
"With this announcement, a question now needs to be asked - Will the upcoming Pee-Wee Herman movie come to cinemas or will it be a direct streaming project?" the site added.
Aside from starring in the "Pee-Wee Herman" movie, Paul Reubens is also writing the script along with comedian Paul Rust.
