Which smartphone is the ideal choice for consumers? We compare the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Oppo N3 to see which device is worth the purchase.
For the design and display, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is known for its unconventional dotted pattern, it comes with a fingerprint sensor hidden inside the home button, and both the exterior and interior will be protected in case users accidentally drop it into the water, thanks to the IP67 certification, which also included resistance against dust. It weight 145 grams and measures 142×72.5×8.1 mm, featuring a 5.1 inches Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and 432ppi.
The Oppo N3 has a 5.5 inches IPS LCD screen with the same resolution, but the pixel density was set at 403ppi. Its design is more elegant, but the device is available only in white color. Users will notice the swiveling camera which will rotate back and forth using the O-click Bluetooth remote control or by going to camera’s application. It has an arc floating design and there’s a metal frame surrounding the edges. There is also a fingerprint sensor which can be used by those to will want to lock and unlock their devices using their fingerprints. But it has in addition a LED notification bar on the bottom, like the Find 7.
In terms of hardware and OS, both smartphones are powered by a quad core Krait 400 processor paired with Adreno 330 graphics, but the Galaxy S5 is faster because it has a higher clock speed of 2.5GHz and features a newer and superior Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset, while the Oppo N3 has its processor clocked at 2.3GHz, which is backed by a Qualcomm MSM8974AA Snapdragon 801 chipset. But the RAM capacity is identical at 2GB, and both devices are housing 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB. The Galaxy S5 runs on the Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), but now it’s upgradeable to v5.0 (Lollipop), while the Oppo N3 runs on the v4.4.4 (KitKat).
For battery and camera specs, Oppo N3 has a removable battery at 3000mAh, but it lasts as long as the 2800mAh battery from the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is 21 hours when talking on 3G.
Both handsets have 16MP cameras, and the Samsung handset has its shooter right above the heart rate sensor, while the Oppo device has an innovative swiveling camera which is Schneider Kreuznach certified and features dual-LED flash. The motorized rotating lens can be controlled via on-screen gestures or using the O-Click remote control. Some other features include 1/2.3” sensor size, 1.34µm pixel size, HDR and more, while Samsung offers phase detection autofocus, 1/2.6” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, Dual Shot etc. Both devices can take photos with a similar quality, being very vibrant and detailed.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 32GB variant cost $580, while the Oppo N3 is available on the Indian market at $660.
