'The Interview' No. 1 Sony Movie Ever, Online Sales $15M: Was Obama Right?
For days after releasing 'The Interview' online on Christmas Eve, the comedy that poked fun of an assassination attempt of the North Korean leader, Kim Jung-Un is now Sony's most downloaded movie ever.. The parody has been downloaded 2 million times and has retrieved about a third of what it spent on 'The Interview' - $44 million.
In a debate over releasing 'The Interview', President Obama said that Sony Entertainment had made a mistake, fearing security concerns. The President called the making of the movie ''freedom of artistic expression."
After the recent Sony hack of sensitive emails and the attackers' warning against screening 'The Interview' on Christmas day, President Barrack Obama had said that Sony's decision not to run the film was a bad move. However, Sony changed its mind running the movie in more than 200 independent theaters and online on YouTube.
North Korea officials called President Obama a 'monkey' for instigating the release of 'The Interview' on Christmas.
It has also blamed the Internet outages on the U.S., after allegations that the hackers associated with Sony hacks that has left the company embarassed and losses in the wake of the cyber attack.
