But what caused the delay?
KH3 creator Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that Kingdom Hearts 3 is now being developed on Unreal Engine 4.
In an interview with Famitsu, Nomura explained that:
"Development is steadily proceeding as planned. Due to the impact of changing the game engine to Unreal Engine 4, which we did for various reasons, there is some difficulty rendering images. And with the full support of Epic Games, we'll be able to progress smoothly."
It was assumed that Square Enix was using an in-house game engine for Kingdom Hearts 3 similar to Final Fantasy XV, but the changes in the game's engine is now the likely culprit for the delay.
