It looks like Final Fantasy XV would have multiplayer if the reports and rumors are to be believed.
Previously, we reported that a user from 4Chan has posted a document from a leaked Sony email showing Final Fantasy XV would have local multiplayer in it. The users from the site speculated that split screen multiplayer would be the obvious choice and that 2 players can control the characters in the party.
However, Cyberland reports that players can connect with each other online and play the game with their friends. Their report says that the host of the game would control the main character while the second player can control any member of the party.
It should be noted though that Square Enix hasn't confirmed that there would be multiplayer in FFXV, Siliconera has uncovered that Square Enix is looking for job applicants that are tied to the online features of FFXV:
"Square Enix posted a new job position for an online game planner. What's interesting is in the duties it says one of them is planning new online games related to Final Fantasy XV. No other details have been specified and Square Enix has not announced any online projects tied to Final Fantasy XV so far." Says Spencer from Siliconera
Meanwhile, Amazon has confirmed that the Final Fantasy XV release date to be on December 2015 in their listing of the game on their website.
