Good news for Sherlock fans as they would be getting a taste of the Sherlock season 4 early as BBC has confirmed a new episode would air this 2015 but the bad news is that the next episode would be on 2017!

KpopStarz reported that the Sherlock season 4 release date would be delayed due to Benedict Cumberbatch's busy schedule.

However, BBC has confirmed that a special Christmas episode based on the mystery of 'The Adventure Of The Blue Carbuncle' will air ahead of Season 4 on December 25, 2015 as reported by KpopStarz.

With the confirmation that the Sherlock season 4 release date is going to be delayed, a number of angry fans took to the internet to vent out their frustrations. And it seems like Benedict Cumberbatch has been the fall guy for their anger.

"MarkToy" on IMDB said "I love Cumberbatch but that dude is seriously the reason why we won't be getting new episodes anytime soon".

While a user on Facebook said this on the Sherlock Facebook page "I'm tired of waiting! 2 years for a new season? Cumberbatch is not busy at the moment but he refuses to film new episodes? That's it, I'm done with this show".

But not everyone is feeling negative about the show as co-creator Mark Gratis is happy about the Sherlock season 4 release date:

"Series Four! At last!" wrote co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss in an update.

"It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing...a Special! Not only THAT, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before...The whole 'Sherlock' team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on - again!"

Steven Moffat added "A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run! Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect ...."
