The Asus Zenfone 5 has a 5 inch screen with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels at 294ppi. It weighs 145 grams and its dimensions are 148.2×72.8×10.3 mm. The Samsung Galaxy S5 measures 142×72.5×8.1 mm but it has the same weight as the Asus phone. It is water and dust protection, and has the fingerprint sensor on the front panel. The screen measures 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, and a pixel density of 432ppi.
The Asus Zenfone 5 has two cores and two variants of clock speeds: 2 GHz / Intel Atom Z2580 chipset and 1.6 GHz / Intel Atom Z2560 chipset, but the graphics chip are the same which is the PowerVR SGX544MP2. The internal memory variants are 8 and 16GB, which support expansion up to 64GB. It runs on the Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean), and now it runs on v4.4.2 (KitKat).
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a v4.4.2 (KitKat), but it’s upgradable to v5.0 (Lollipop) and it runs on a quad core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, partnered with the Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset along with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It comes with internal memory options of 16 and 32GB, which can be expanded up to 128GB.
The Asus Zenfone 5 has a non-removable battery of 2110 mAh which lasts 18 hours and a half when talking on 3G, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 2800 mAh battery with 21 hours of talking time.
The Samsung handset features a much better back camera with a resolution of 16MP, and there are plenty features that can be used to obtain awesome pictures such as phase detection autofocus, 1/2.6” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, HDR, dual shot etc. It can record videos at 2160p@30fps, while the Zenfone 5 is stuck at 1080p@30fps. The back camera of the Asus device has a resolution of 8MP and has fewer features, but the front cameras are identical at 2MP.
The Asus Zenfone 5 8GB costs $152 on Amazon and the 16GB variant is $53 more expensive. The Samsung Galaxy S5 32GB costs $580.
