Bandai Namco is going to shake up the fighting game community this 2015 and they've started 2015 with a bang as they've unveiled Tekken's most controversial fighter yet.
As was confirmed by Katushiro Harada, Shaheen is from Saudi Arabia. Shaheed wears the traditional Saudi headdress called the keffiyeh, alongside a modified Thawb and Bisht. The long sleeved garment Saudis wear called that Thawb has been trimmed at the bottom into a more practical shirt, and decorated with a gold trim while the bisht has an extravagant design as it is cut into a wing-like pattern while decorated with a gold trim and held together by a pin.
While some gamers applaud the Tekken developers with their decision to add Shaheen into the game, some were not. A good number of racist gamers took to Tekken's official Facebook page and posted various discriminating comments about the character and his background:
One user said "Excited to see his rage arts. I can see it now: him running towards you, then hugs you. Then starts going, "alalalalalala!" then explodes."
Another user admitted he won't be playing Tekken 7 after Shaheen's addition into the game"Is this really the time to be adding terrorists to a franchise favorite? I'll pass on the rest of the tekken games."
"I bet he has a bomb inside his shirt" said one user about Shaheen.
While Shaheed's appearance on the game is very controversial, it has been reported by VGFightTeam that a gameplay video of Shaheen on Tekken 7 has leaked on the popular image board 4Chan but the gameplay video of Shaheed was taken down by Bandai Namco when it was posted on Youtube.
It is still unknown as to whether Bandai Namco would put Shaheen's gameplay video online soon.
