Oscar pistorius murder trial

With an appeal to challenge Judge Masipa's verdict already being processed, it seems the Pistorius family couldn't get any more bad news. However, an accident that happened last August will be putting another family member in front of the South African court again. Read on for this Oscar Pistorius trial update.

According to Reuters, Carl Pistorius is facing reckless and negligent driving charges as a result of the head-on collision he went through in August 2014. The Telegraph reported that the Pistorius family maintained that the accident had been caused by the other motorist.

The older Pistorius sibling had been driving home from a meeting when a Hyundai reportedly changed lanes causing him to crash into Carl's Toyota Corolla.

The incident left him with serious organ damage and a stint in Intensive Care Unit. Despite his condition, he still offered his younger brother moral support by showing up at the courtroom with both legs in braces, as seen in previous Oscar Pistorius trial updates.

Despite the family's claim of innocence, Carl Pistorius will be facing charges instead of the other driver.

The New York Daily News reported that he "failed to co-operate" with the investigation thus resulting in the filing of charges against him.

Spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto reportedly told Reuters that the Blade Runner's older brother was charged by the Limpopo province court because of failure to submit a statement about the accident.

"Mr. Pistorius did not want to submit his statement, he was charged mainly because of that," she revealed.

Nathi Mncube from South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority denied Carl Pistorius' failure to cooperate to be the reason for the new charges.

"He has the right to remain silent, there must be evidence to bring such a charge," he said. He also rejected social media comments about the NPA having a "vendetta" against the Olympian's family.

Nevertheless, this isn't the first vehicle-related case that the elder Pistorius has faced. In 2008, a motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident involving Carl Pistorius. He was later acquitted of manslaughter.

If his case is heavier than just reckless driving, then he could very well be meeting his brother inside prison.

Pistorius' lawyer, Kenny Oldwadge, reportedly declined to comment about the case.
