The Sony Xperia C3 has a IPS LCD display, while the HTC Desire 816 has a Super LCD2. Although different, both devices have the same display sizes of 5.5 inches, and resolutions of 720 x 1280 pixels at 267ppi. The Sony Xperia C3 dimensions are 156.2 x 78.7 x 7.6 mm, and weighs 149 grams, as the HTC Desire 816 is at 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.9 mm, and weighs 165 grams. The Fuse Joplin claimed that the reason why the HTC handset is heavier, because of its aluminum build on the rear panel, which makes it look premium.

The Sony Xperia C3 is equipped with a quad-core Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.2GHz. It is partnered with a Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chipset, and has 1GB of RAM.

The HTC Desire 816 on the other hand, has quad-core Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.6GHz. It is partnered by the Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 and 1.5GB of RAM.

Both smartphone have an internal storage of 8GB. However, this small memory is countered by the availability of an expansion slot for SD card, where the Sony handset can reach up to 32GB and the HTC is at 128GB. Both smartphones also operate under the Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat).

According to the specs from GSMArena, the Sony Xperia C3 has a 8MP rear camera, while the HTC Desire 816 has a rear camera of 15MP, but the two have front cameras at 5MP. Both smartphones also have similar features such as LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, HDR etc.

The Sony handset has a Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery, which can last 11 hours in 2G, and 25 hours in 3G. The HTC device on the other hand, has a non-removable Li-Po 2600 mAh battery that can last 21 hours in 3G.

The Sony Xperia C3 is around $310, while the HTC Desire 816 cost $315 in the market.
