Unlike previous spoilers which held the promise of a future relationship between Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) , this new "Penny Dreadful" season 2 trailer warns them of their past coming back to haunt them.
Viewers have already seen Vanessa's disturbing back story as well as its very dark implication for her present state. Past reports indicated that Ethan might just be Vanessa's savior. He, after all, "exorcised" her in the latter part of season one.
What the audience will find out in season two, however, is that Ethan also has a past that will soon creep over and knock him out cold again. Hopefully, his story as a werewolf will be delved in during season two.
"Do you believe the past will return?" Vanessa asked Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) in the new "Penny Dreadful" season 2 trailer.
"More than that," he answered her. "It never leaves us."
An eerie song can be heard throughout the clip. Later on, the person singing is revealed - Madame Kali (Helen McCrory) who is seen bathing in a tub full of blood.
It was already previously reported that Madame Kali had grown very interested in Vanessa after seeing her being possessed during a séance. Meanwhile, the degree of her evil intentions for the troubled psychic will apparently end in death.
"What games we'll have, Miss Ives and I, when one will live and one will die," the mysterious spiritualist reportedly said in a deleted clip shown during the San Diego Comic Con in July.
"When Lucifer fell, he did not fall alone," Vanessa's eerie statement ends the video
Is she talking about the demonic presence plaguing her or is she hinting at Madame Kali's possible not-so-human identity?
The Victorian-era drama will wreck havoc again on April 26, Sunday, 10 PM on Showtime.
