"The Last: Naruto The Movie" is definitely not the last specially based on the profits. Crunchy Roll reported that the recent titular ninja film surpassed 2012's "Road To Ninja's" 1.48 billion yen record by making about 1.75 billion yen or 14.76 million US dollars by the end of December.
Reportedly, "The Last: Naruto The Movie" earned 515,331,800 yen on 396,280 admissions in 266 screens across Japan during the December 6 opening. Even after a month since it premiered, the latest Naruto movie still ranked 7th in the weekend box office of January 3-4 and is expected to reach two billion yen in its entire run.
"The Last: Naruto The Movie" is not just limited to Japanese viewing. The film is coming to selected cities in the US through the efforts of VIZ Media and Eleven Arts. According to IGN, the film is set for February 20, 2015 release in eight cities including New York, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.
Reportedly, tickets will go on sale by mid-January at Eleven Arts' website. "The Last: Naruto The Movie" will be shown in its "original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles" according to its official press release.
"Earth's days are numbered and Naruto will have to tap every bit of his ninjutsu skills and knowledge to save the planet and defeat his enemies in this amazing and highly anticipated addition to the NARUTO saga," VIZ Media advertises of Naruto's action-packed plot.
The film based on Masashi Kishimoto's manga introduces a new character that will be Naruto's adversary. Naruto will have to fight the "mysterious man." He is Toneri Otsutsuki, a direct descendant to the sage of Six Paths. Toneri came from the Otsutsuki lineage; having a crescent moon on his back indicates that he has a unique ability to control the moon.
