While people are buzzing about shoo-ins Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and Michael Keaton getting their much-deserved 2015 Oscar nominations, the other half of the population is mourning the loss of certain films in the final line-up of contenders.
First of all, the Oprah-produced film "Selma" allegedly didn't receive the recognition it deserved. Unlike in the Golden Globes, David Oyelowo was not recognized in the Best Actor category. Nor was the movie's director, Ava DuVernay, recognized by the Academy.
DuVernay would have been the first female African-American helmer nominated for the Oscars, according to The Daily Beast.
In another article, The Daily Beast noted that the snub could have been because of the discrepancies of the film's historical timeline which The Washington Post pointed out. The alleged inaccuracies reportedly caught Paramount off-guard.
"Selma," was, however, nominated for Best Picture along with "The Theory Of Everything," "The Imitation Game," "Birdman," "Whiplash," "American Sniper," "Boyhood," and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (which garnered the most number of nods this year).
Another film snubbed by the Academy was David Fincher's psychological drama, "Gone Girl." It only managed to get a Best Actress nomination for Rosamond Pike's amazing performance as Ben Affleck's missing wife.
Jennifer Aniston, who earned a nod from the Golden Globes for her performance in "Cake," was also overlooked for the Best Actress award.
Instead of the "Friends" alum, French actress Marion Cotillard took her place in the Best Actress list.
"Nightcrawler" with its lead actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, seemingly a shoo-in for the Best Actor nominees list, did not get recognized as well.
Arguably the biggest 2015 Oscar nominations snub, however, was Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's inventive animated film "The Lego Movie."
Despite earning $257 million domestically and featuring the voices of Chris Pratt and Will Ferrell, the action adventure film wasn't recognized for the Best Animated Feature award.
