Serena Williams won her sixth Australian Open singles crown at the expense of Maria Sharapova, and her rumored boyfriend Patrick Mouratoglou wasn't a bit surprised.
The bizarre scene started with Serena Williams acing what she believed was a match point. She started celebrating when the umpire called it a let.
"I thought after the let, Man, I am not meant to win this tournament," she said in a piece from the NY Times. "I had a couple of match points. I mean, she played great on those match points. She totally went for broke. I was like, come on!"
However, Serena Williams could not be denied as she returned to the service line and punctuated the game with another ace on the same corner. It was her 16th straight win against Maria Sharapova who just couldn't slay her own demons to defeat her arch-nemesis.
Serena Williams' coach and rumored boyfriend, Patrick Mouratoglou, could only exclaim: "I think only Serena can do that."
According to Sydney Morning Herald, Serena Williams had to vomit because she wasn't feeling well during her match with Maria Sharapova.
"No, actually, I've never done that before. I guess there's a first time for anything. I think in a way that just helped me - I felt better after that. My chest was really stuck at that point," she said.
"The doctor gave me a little cough syrup and sent me on my way. It was like a small, small, small amount just to suppress. I was coughing so much," the world's number one said. "It was just forcing things out of me. So I was just trying to pull myself together."
Serena Williams is battling rumors that her coach Patrick Mouratoglou is also her boyfriend. The tennis ace has denied dating anybody as she claimed that she's single at the moment.
