The Japanese automaker redesigned the Toyota Tacoma mid-sized pick-up truck, emphasizing tough attitude and general off-road capability, after facing tough competition from Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.

According to edmunds.com, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma model offers plenty of "new technology." This includes five trim levels such as SR the "basic work truck," SR5 possessing that "more polished look" from added minor interior and exterior enhancements, TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road with suspension upgrades and more all-terrain capacity, and lastly, the Limited edition also known as the "fully loaded model."

Toyota is expecting to boost sales this year as the automaker banked on the popularity of the 2016 Tacoma pick-up truck's predecessor. According to autonews.com, 155,000 units of Tacoma's most recent model were sold last year, and the car manufacturing company plans to surpass that number this year.

"Dealers are real excited about the truck, but they need more of them," Bob Carter, Toyota's senior vice president of automotive operations, said.

Early press releases said that the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pick up is powered by 4- and 6-cylinder engines. NY Daily News reported that the 4-cylinder engine comes with 6-speed automatic transmission only. Truck user may opt to select the new Atkinson-cycle, 3.5-liter V-6 nets which feature an optional auto or manual transmission.

The website also noted that the new V-6 is packed with "D4-S technology which allows it to switch from port injection under low engine loads and direct injection systems at higher rpms."

Aside from these changes, Toyota's website stated that "every Tacoma will come standard with a GoPro® mount help you get all the adventure on video."

According to NY Daily News, depending on trim and options, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pick-up can be acquired starting at $21,000 to $30,000.
