The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly shopping around Jeremy Lin but trading him is much easier said than done.
According to the article from Pro Basketball Talk, the poison pill contract that Linsanity signed with Houston Rockets in 2012 has become a headache for the Los Angeles Lakers.
"Once the Lakers traded for Jeremy Lin they had to know he was going to be with them all season," it said. "It's mostly about the contract, which counts for $8.4 million against the cap but is actually north of $15 million in money paid out."
Sporting News said that Jeremy Lin is hard to trade because his up-and-down season came at a very crucial time, right when the free agency is looming on the summer.
Linsanity has proven himself that he can play point during his time with the New York Knicks, and even showed some flashed this season with the Los Angeles Lakers when he averaged double figures in scoring.
"While some of that has been the result of a bad fit in LA, it's also been Lin's own struggles with his shooting, particularly from mid-range," it added. "He would make a good backup point guard, and the Lakers would move him if they could get an asset in return, but the market for Lin has been weak."
After the loss to Orlando Magic on Friday, Jeremy Lin was asked if it's true that the Lakers are tanking in order to get a high pick in next year's draft.
"I don't, but I think other people do," he told Lakers Nation. "I don't read anything so I don't really know, but I hear it kind of second hand. It's got nothing to do with me. I'm going to go out there every night, try my hardest to play hard and win the game."
Jeremy Lin previously said that he's keeping his options this summer, whether or not he will leave the Los Angeles Lakers or not.
