Is Ethan Hawk and Emma Watson's "Regression" trailer crazy enough to earn the "Harry Potter" star some nominations from different award giving bodies?
Directed by the Oscar winner Alejandro Amenabar, the film is set in Minnesota during the 1990s. Detective Bruce Kenner (Hawke) investigates a man who admits to committing a heinous crime that he's accused of by his traumatized daughter, Angela (Watson).
Without a single recollection of the crime he supposedly committed, famous psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help John (David Dencik) get his memories back.
According to the Daily Mail, this will be "the catalyst for uncovering a national conspiracy."
"Regression" is just one of the movies that the "Perks Of Being A Wallfloer" star has lined up for this year and she couldn't be any further away from her brainy witch character in the Warner Bros. franchise.
Although she already tried out different roles in the past, this new character could be her toughest role yet.
Emma Watson, in the "Regression" trailer, showcases her American accent as well as her ability to portray fear from the people that harmed her in the past.
"They'll kill me," her character, Angela, shakily tells Kenner when prompted to answer some questions. Later on in the clip, she warns the detective, "They'll kill you, too."
Could Watson's performance in this promising film bring her the same recognition that Nicole Kidman received for "The Others" in 2001?
Helmer Alejandro Amenabar also directed the critically supernatural thriller. It was also a box office success, earning more than $200 million dollars.
This acclaimed director's track record could help Watson get a nomination from prestigious award winning bodies, just like how Kidman's role as a religious mother in "The Others" earned her a Golden Globe nomination among others.
