The first two singles off of "1989" channelled some light-hearted cheekiness and craziness. However, Taylor Swift's "Style" music video seems to be a bit more serious than "Shake It Off" and "Blank Space."
In the dream-like clip, the 25-year-old singer walks bare feet through the woods and looks through broken mirrors. In the same way, a guy who looks like James Dean is seen looking very troubled as he sees Swift everywhere around him.
The usually perky and bubbly pop star also shares some steamy moments with her man in a darkened room, in contrast to the home video-type snippets of them together during happier times.
Meanwhile, right in the beginning of Taylor Swift's "Style" music video, an image of a paper plane necklace can be seen for a few seconds. This short snippet, along with the allegedly telling lyrics of the song, prompted fans and the media to presume that the video was a callout to one of her famous ex-boyfriends, Harry Styles.
The necklace was reportedly a gift that the One Direction member gave to the "Red" singer during the course of their relationship. It was also referenced in another song in "1989."
"Your necklace hanging from my neck / The night we couldn't quite forget / When we decided (We decided) / To move the furniture so we could dance," the lyrics to "Out Of The Woods" read. "Baby, like we stood a chance / Two paper airplanes flying, flying, flying."
According to Rolling Stone, "Style" is "the most obvious Styles-inspired song based on title alone."
"We should have just called it 'I'm Not Even Sorry,'" the music magazine reportedly quoted the famous singer as joking about the song's supposed hidden message.
Kyle Newman directed Taylor Swift's "Style" music video while "Vampire Academy" actor Dominic Sherwood played the Grammy winning singer's James Dean-esque lover, according to Just Jared.
Sherwood is currently dating "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland.
