How Different Will Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ 2015 Be From Original Animated Version? Director Kenneth Branagh Wants A Less ‘Sexist’ Film

Fairy tale fans will ultimately compare the original 1950s animated film to the Disney's "Cinderella" 2015 version. Given the film studio's penchant for drastically changing the storyline for cartoon remakes, how different will this version be from its predecessor?

Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh, who is bringing the classic story to life, steered the new film into a more modern direction, according to Richard Madden who plays Ella's Prince Charming.

"The original animated version was much more about this boy who comes to save the day and this version is so not like that," the "Game Of Thrones" alum told The Guardian in an interview.

Unlike the first version, Ella won't be left helpless waiting for her prince.

"It's the strong girl by herself and a young man coming together that makes the story, rather than a far more sexist view," he added.

The Guardian compared Disney's "Cinderella" 2015 to the 1998 movie "Ever After: A Cinderella Story" which starred Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott.

The film showcased a headstrong Cinderella who worked hard for her happy ending instead of waiting for the Prince to find her with her missing slipper.

"I did want to make a film that was about courage and about kindness and about a psychological modernity in the middle of this traditional story," Branagh himself shared.

Although he kept the original feel of the animated version, the reknowned helmer wanted to make the film more relatable to a more modern audience. After all, much of the romantic stories today were inspired by the iconic tale.

"The Cinderella myth continues to capture our imaginations," he added.

Meanwhile, Disney's "Cinderella" 2015 already inspired an unusual promotional tactic. The studio called up the expertise of nine top-notch shoe designers to create their own versions of Cinderella's famous glass slippers.

These designs will actually sold in March to celebrate the release of the film on the 13th of the same month.
