Court date for the misdemeanor case against Blake Griffin was set on March 24, which leaves plenty of time for his attorney to work out a settlement, reports claimed.

The burly forward continues to miss games because of a staph inspection following a surgery to his elbow, and analysts are worried that it could cost the Los Angeles Clippers a spot for the playoffs.

In an Associated Press report, published on USA Today, Richard Schonfeld, the attorney for Blake Griffin in the misdemeanor case, said that "he hopes to work out a negotiation or what he called 'some other disposition' to get the misdemeanor battery case dismissed."

The case stemmed from the complaint lodged by Daniel Schuman who accused the Los Angeles Clippers superstar and dunk champion of grabbing his mobile phone and slapping him at the Tao nightclub on Oct. 19 last year.

If convicted of the misdemeanor battery case, Blake Griffin could face jail time for up to six months or a $1,000 fine, or both.

"It remains to be seen how his potential legal woes will be resolved," said Bleacher Report. "Though given that the case has been pushed back another month, it seems possible that some sort of settlement or plea deal might be reached."

With his misdemeanor battery case hanging over him, Blake Griffin is recovering from a staph inspection which caused him to be sidelined for four to six weeks, something that could come back to bite the team come playoff time.

Blake Griffin is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists, which would be irreplaceable for a team without inside presence.

The Washington Post said that the team scores 117.2 points per 100 possessions with Blake Griffin on the court, or a 0.851 win percentage.

That number drops down to just just 0.579 without the power forward.

"Over the next 19 games, that becomes a five-win difference, which could be enough to drop them out of the playoffs," the article noted.
