Matthew McConaughey's stunning performance on the crime drama TV series has left many viewers wanting more. Many have hoped that he would return to reprise his role on the "True Detective" season 2 cast and ended up disappointed.
His near Emmy-winning role as Rust Cohle struck a chord with both fans and critics and much have been said about the actor returning to the popular TV series, which also starred Woody Harrelson.
There had been talks during the winding down of season one that the "Dazed and Confused" star would indeed be back, but he swiftly put an end to those rumors.
"I don't regret saying no to a second season," the 45-year-old thespian told The Mirror about his decision to bow out of the "True Detective" season 2 cast.
"I spent five or six months working on the show and that was just fine. It had a beginning, a middle and an end for me and I don't know where it would have gone from there," he continued.
"I am someone who likes to do different things and I would have never done it if I would have had to sign on for a guaranteed three seasons. I simply wouldn't have done it. But I'm excited about the new cast of Colin and Vince," the Oscar-winning actor concluded.
"Two thing may be assumed from his statement. First, that the "Fool's Gold" star was asked to return to do a second season sometime during his involvement with the show. But more interestingly, that he is content with what he has brought in for the show and would not want to find out how else he could "destroy what he already created," according to report by Fansided.
To pass up a very successful and popular role is difficult for any actor to do. It is easy to surmise that a great amount of money is being offered to Matthew McConaughey to reprise his role as the enigmatic police officer in "True Detective 2." But if there is one thing that fans can take solace from, it is that the actor's portrayal of Rust Cohle shall be preserved.
Will the new "True Detective" season 2 cast get the same reaction without Matthew McConaughey? Will the sequel get similar critical acclaim? That's the question that HBO producers are anticipating ahead of the projected summer 2015 airing date.
