Looks like Sigourney Weaver will reprise her role as Ripley once more in Neill Blomkamp's new "Alien" movie.
Blomkamp shared some juicy details regarding the upcoming "Alien" movie. The South African-Canadian film director, who is currently busy promoting his latest release "Chappie" along with Weaver, opened up about his plan for the much-awaited sci-fi film, "Alien."
io9 notes that Blomkamp's Alien movie is making progress really quickly. During a recent Sky Movies interview with Weaver and Blomkamp, the two laid out where they want the new Alien film to go.
"I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of 'Alien'," Blomkamp said. Basically, it's Alien, Aliens and this movie. Weaver, who played the significant role of Ripley in previous "Alien" movies, added that she would love to take Ripley from orbiting around in space and give a fitting end to what turned out to be an excellent story.
The concept art put together by Blomkamp, hinted that the upcoming "Alien" movie would be a sequel, but it was not clear how it would fit in with the other films.
IGN points out that it's easy to forget that "Alien" was originally launched as "Jaws in Space," a sinister tone Blomkamp wants to recall. The "District 9" helmer said, the Freudian nightmare is the element that appeals to him. He opened up about his plan to put the audience on the edge of their seat by following the traditional "monster stalking you in a dark corridor way."
Although it may disappoint fans of the sequel, it's hard to not take "Alien" back to its horror roots. According to ScreenGonzo, allowing Ripley to have a complete story might turn out to be a good idea after all. Without a doubt, it is said that Blomkamp is an ideal fit for this series and he clearly has a deep passion for the project.
The much-anticipated sequel would not in any way affect the production of the "Prometheus" sequel that Ridley Scott is working on. This implies that fans will be getting a couple new movies in the overall franchise.
The new "Alien" is yet to have a release date attached.
