Disney is planning to reboot "DuckTales" in 2017 and reintroduce Scrooge McDuck to younger generation as the '80s animated series will be shown again with all-new episodes on Disney XD.
In a statement published on Variety, Marc Buhaj, SVP for programming at Disney XD, said, "'DuckTales' has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults."
"Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation," it added.
According to the magazine, the "DuckTales" reboot in 2017 will be like the original animated series which ran for three years.
It follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie as they go on adventure all around the world. If the original series is to be based, Donald Duck will also have ample screen time.
"Other characters from the original, including Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell and Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack, are also set to return," Variety added.
"The original 'DuckTales' (woo-ooh!), which was produced from 1987-1990, followed the adventures of the literally-swimming-in-cash tycoon Scrooge McDuck, his mischievous grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, and Donald Duck," said Wall Street Journal.
"A feature film, 'DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp,' was released in 1990," it added.
For younger set who have no idea why "DuckTales" is being rebooted for Disney XD in 2017, the animated series actually won four Emmys.
Also, Mashable noted that Scrooge McDuck remains popular since a tribute for the "DuckTales" theme song using real ducks posted on You Tube in September 2014 already generated more than six million views.
