Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed that he'll be headlining the next installment to the sixth Terminator film, "Terminator Genisys". In an exclusive interview with the The Arnold Fans, the actor revealed that he's also filming two followup movies in Terminator franchise.
Schwarzenegger may be gearing up for the world premiere of "Terminator Genisys" but he's also busy with the two upcoming films. The website also reported that the 67-year-old actor plans to shoot the next two sequels of "Terminator" back-to-back.
According to Daily Mail, a sixth Terminator film would mark Schwarzenegger’s fifth turn as the T-800. The actor, however, made a cameo appearance in 2009's "Terminator Salvation". The sixth sequel would reportedly hit cinemas in 2017, which means that Schwarzenegger would be 69 or 70 by the time fans got to see it.
It has been more than a decade since the "The Last Stand" star took on the "Terminator" role back in 2003's "Rise of the Machine." It was, however, reported that Schwarzenegger was able to bond with his co-actors immediately. Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese) and Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor) will also be returning in the sixth and seventh movie of "Terminator" alongside the former body builder.
The sixth "Terminator" movie would be directed by Alan Taylor, known for his works such as "Thor: The Dark World" and six "Game of Thrones" episode.
The last film in the franchise was "Terminator Salvation" back in 2009 starring Christian Bale. Unfortunately, the film was not accepted well by both fans and critics alike. According to Box Office Mojo, the film only grossed $125.3 million with a $200 million production budget. Critics from rotten tomatoes gave it a 33% fresh rating, and an audience score of 3.3/5.
"Terminator Genisys" hits theaters on July 1, the planned next sequel was planned to premier May 19, 2017 and the third one is scheduled June 29, 2018.
