"Beetlejuice 2" cast rumors continue to pour in but comments from key players have pushed the possibility of the film from dream into reality. Tim Burton has revealed that a script is "already on hand."
The ghoulish fantasy film, which starred Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder in 1988, easily became a financial and critical success and now, 25 years after the movie, fans are beginning to wonder when Betelgeuse will return to the big screen.
It's a good thing that the "Beetlejuice 2" cast rumors have mostly been positive. Director Tim Burton has been vocal about the plans for a reboot and mentioned that Winona Ryder will be in on the project as well.
It was as Lydia Deetz, the lonely goth teenager role on Beetlejuice that Winona Ryder first gained popular and critical recognition. To not have the "Edward Scissorhands" star onboard will certainly be odd.
According to a report by Screen Rant, the filmmaker has worked with the "Reality Bites" star a couple of times through the years. Their duo has worked on a music video for rock band "The Killers" as well as on the 2012 film "Frankenweenie."
Tim Burton replied in the the affirmative when asked whether or not the "Beetlejuice 2" script has a role written out for Ryder.
"Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah," the "Big Eyes" director earlier told MTV News.
The "Heathers" star, on the other hand, has also somewhat clued in the public during the Sundance Film Festival that a "sequel" will indeed be happening.
"As far as I know, it's gonna happen," the 43-year-old actress remarked.
But Tim Burton stated that the movie should not be called a sequel.
"There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," the "Nightmare Before Christmas" director shared. "I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but it'll have some characters [from the original 'Beetlejuice']. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."
The "Beetlejuice 2" cast rumors also suggest that Keaton is very much willing to return to reprise his role and that he has emailed with the director about it a couple of times.
"I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again," the "Birdman" star told MTV.
