Sony's high-end mid-ranger, the super-slim Xperia M4 Aqua, just went official at the Mobile World Congress 2015.
Sony's flagship, Xperia Z3 is the pinnacle of Sony's smartphone range and it has reigned in that position for six months, pretty unusual long time for the Japanese mobile maker. According to TheVerge, contrary to an expected Z4 successor today (March 2) at MWC, Sony is looking for a lower price range with the unveiling of the Xperia M4 Aqua, a 5-inch Android Lollipop device which resembles the Z3.
According to GSMArena, the Xperia M4 Aqua is dust-tight and also can last in 1.5m deep fresh water for up to 30 minutes, thus making it an IP68-certified device. In addition, the uber cool M4 Aqua offers cap-less microUSB port, a first for a water-proofed Sony. This eliminates the need to fiddle with caps making charging easier.
Sony has restrained the internal specs of the phone in order to lower the price. It boasts a 720p display instead of full HD, a comparatively less powerful processor and instead of a 20, a 13-megapixel camera. Nevertheless, it is still waterproof and even has 4G LTE connection.
According to GSMArena, M4 Aqua is built around a 5.2" IPS display of 720p resolution. The uber-cool device runs on the avant-garde Snapdragon 615 chipset with a 64-bit octa-core Cortez-A53 processor, 2GB RAM and Adreno 405 graphics. The processor offers four Cortex-A53 cores ticking at 1.7GHz and another four clocked at 1.0GHz. In addition, the M4 Aqua features a 5MP selfie snapper in the front. It runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and is powered by a 2,400 mAh battery. Sony assures the battery will last two full days of normal use.
Although Sony didn't reveal when or where the phone will be available, the tech giant said it will be sometime this spring. The phone is slated to go on sale for a pocket friendly price of 299 euros i.e. £220, $340 or AU$435. Final pricing can be expected to vary considerably.
