Good news Marvel fans as a new director has been named to handle the new "Spider-Man" movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with two actors rumored to possibly play Miles Morales.
According to Screenrant, "The Cabin in the Woods" director Drew Goddard was pick by both Marvel Studios and Sony to helm the new "Spider-Man" film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, due to an alleged information from the Latino-Review writer Kelvin Chavez. Goddard was also in charge of the Spider-Man spin off movie "The Sinister Six," and Screenrant adds that Goddard's relationship with Sony has been relatively good.
According to Chavez's contact Senor Fenix, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been working with Sony about having the new "Spidey" film now dubbed "Spectacular Spider-Man" to be a three part movie series, and that Avi Arad will no longer be needed for the film
"Feige was allowed to join the process only after Ike Perlmutter, Feige’s boss and the man behind the curtain, insisted that former partner and one time friend Avi Arad be removed from the film series. Since Sony had installed Arad as a courtesy back in 2000 it was an easy removal legally," Latino-Review reports.
Latino-Review further adds, "But since former Sony Studio head Amy Pascal made herself a producer on the film on the way out the door, I understand there was a lot of acrimony when Amy informed Avi he was out. Arad will receive an EP credit on the film and instead focus on making a feature out of GHOST IN THE SHELL without any Asian actors."
The Latino-Review pointed out several key plans for the "Spectacular Spider-Man" film;
- No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given
- New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role. The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter.
- A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers
- The first film will involved the "Sinister Six" coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.
With the "Sinister Six" spin off, now scrapped, it seems that this would be Goddart's opportunity to retell the story of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Deadline reports that Marvel and Sony have not yet finalized who would helm the project as Goddart was just one of the many candidates, and Marvel will make further announcements on Thursday March 5.
In other news, rumors are making rounds that two new set of actors are being targeted for Spider-Man.
It was previously reported by Movie Pilot that Zac Efron, Logan Lerman, Dylan O'Brien, and Jay Baruchel are candidates for the role of Peter Parker, while "The Community" star Donald Glover expressed his desire for the role since Jeff Snieder allegedly hinted that the web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be Miles Morales.
According to Hypable, two actors are being targeted for the possible role of Miles Morales and they are Tyler James Williams ("The Walking Dead," "Everybody Hates Chris"), and Alfred Enoch ("How to Get Away with Murder," "Harry Potter" film series).
So far, there are no confirmations yet regarding which Spider-Man should appear in the new film and Marvel fans should wait for further announcements from Marvel Studios and Sony regarding the movie's status.
