Pebble Technology Corporation, maker of Pebble Smartwatch, recently unveiled their newest creation - Pebble Time Steel. The new smartwatch was introduced this week by the California-based smartwatch manufacturer, a week after they unveiled Pebble Time, and is said to start shipping in July, The News Everyday reported.
The Pebble Time Steel is equipped with a built-in microphone for quick voice replies and is made of a stainless steel which has a color e-paper display.
The device is water resistant and scratch-resistant sporting Gorilla Glass lens. The Pebble Time Steel is compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones and available in three colors: silver, gold and black. Interested buyers can choose between a stainless steel strap or a leather band.
Furthermore, both the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel have added quick released band mechanism and a smart accessory port, which enable the developers to build sensors that interface directly with the apps running on Pebble Time.
"In order to add a heart rate monitor or GPS directly into a smartwatch, you have to make serious compromises on design and battery life. And it's likely that if you buy a watch with a certain sensor today, it will be out of date within 12 months," said Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky, citing Telegraph.
Migicovsky also added that the company has created an open platform to build smartstraps for Pebble watches.
The new smartwatch includes a smartstrap with a heart rate monitor that lets the Pebble Time into a high performance fitness watch. The smartwatch also includes a strap with a pollution sensor inside that tracks the environment around the user, and a strap which offers an extra battery for an extended battery life.
The Pebble Time Steel, which will start shipping in July, costs $250 for Kickstarter backers while it will be priced at $299 for retail.
