Looks like a good news for super hero fans as the first photos of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl were released.

Just as production begins on the CBS pilot which is based on characters from DC Comics, the first photos of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl were released Friday, March 6.

According to Variety, three times, Best Costume Design Academy Award Winner, Collen Atwood, designed the costume. Atwood also designed the suits for two other DC Comics TV properties, "The Flash" and "Arrow" of the CW. Atwood, who has collaborated several times with directors Jonathan Demme, Rob Marshall and Tim Burton, was also the costume designer behind "Into the Woods," "Alice in Wonderland," Snow White and the Huntsman," "Chicago" and "Memoirs of a Giesha," among others.

Atwood said that in designing Supergirl, she wanted to embrace the past, however thrust Supergirl into the street-style action hero of today.

Benoist shared her excitement on Twitter posting a photo of her wearing the Supergirl costume.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama revolves around Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Kara was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers after she arrives on Earth. The Danvers taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers which she shares with her cousin.

CNN noted that production on the pilot started this week in Los Angeles.

Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal," "Brothers & Sisters") co-stars as DC Comics character, Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) is set as Jimmy Olsen, David Harewood (Homeland) will portray DC Comics' character, Hank Henshaw and "Grey's Anatomy's" Chyler Leigh is set to play the confident foster sister of Kara, Alexandra "Alex" Danvers. According to CNN, Laura Benanti will recur, while former Supergirl, Helen Slater, who starred in 1984 "Supergirl" feature and former Superman, Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman") are slated to guest-star in the pilot.

The project hails from exec producers and writers Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti ("The Flash," "Arrow") and Andrew Kreisberg. Glen Winter will direct the pilot while Sarah Schechter will also serve as an exec producer. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions will produce.

Back in Jan, at the Television Critics Association press conference, CBS chairwoman Nina Tassler described the network's version of Supergirl as a very strong, independent young woman. Tassler said, "We're big feminists," she added, it's her skill, it's her smarts, it's her intellect. It's all of those elements.

Supergirl is expected to premiere in 2015 of the 2015-16 seasons.
