After 15 long years of unreasonably good-looking duo Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller gracing the big screen as male models, Hansel and Derek, "Zoolander 2" finally has a release date set for next year!
Setting to star in the sequel, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson announced the news in an impressive stunt by walking the runway of Valentino at the Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday. Paramount Pictures also confirmed the release in a tweet.
Both Will Ferrell and Penelope Cruz, reportedly, also signed in for "Zoolander 2."
Ben Stiller, who directed “Zoolander" in 2001, teased some of the possible plot details in an interview with Empire Magazine. He said that the sequel would still follow the life of the struggling models 10 years into their career.
"They're both totally out of it and have to start from scratch," Stiller told Empire Magazine.
"And then there are things set up at the end of the first movie that we're able to build on, like Derek and Matilda have a son, and Mugatu went to jail. There's a lot there, I'm excited about the idea of doing it. It feels like it's getting close to going," he added.
When "Zoolander" was released more than 10 years ago, the film raked in a whopping $60.8 million worldwide gross sales on a budget of $28 million.
What can fans expect from the sequel? Will it have the same comedic flair that its predecessor possess?
Stuart Cornfield, Stiller's producing partner, revealed that he could not wait for the "Zoolander 2" release date for fans to see what they have been working on for the past months.
“We’ve got what I consider to be the best comedy script I’ve read in years and years, with jokes that haven’t been told before,” he said.
Cornfield, however, admitted that there were some constraints and limitations which is why it took them a while to release "Zoolander 2."
“It’s hard to get any movie made. It’s frustrating, because I believe the script is incredible. It’s not just putting on those costumes again, it’s a great story to tell.”
"Zoolander 2" has a global release date of Feb 12, 2016.
