It looks like new update for the third Wolverine spin-off, "Wolverine 3" have been revealed regarding a new character, and possible crossover to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to TheWrap, "X-Men" star Hugh Jackman has hinted that he will leave his iconic role of Logan/Wolverine in the third spin off "Wolverine 3" in a post from his Instagram account.
TheWrap further adds that several bloggers have debated about Jackman's photo, but an inside source told the website that he is referring to the "Wolverine 3" film.
Logan will also appear in Bryan Singer’s forthcoming ensemble “X-Men: Apocalypse,” and Ryan Reynolds’ spinoff “Deadpool.”
Jackman stated last year that his character will be played by someone else in the future in an interview with SFX.
“I don’t know yet. We’re talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me,” Jackman said.
However, Screenrant reportedly claimed that it Jackman's photo could mean something else as the website cited that Jackman could play another character in the X-Men film franchise.
Screenrant revealed that Jackman could play the Cable in the franchise based on the Ultimate Marvel version of the character.
In the Ultimate Marvel comics, Cable is the future version of Wolverine as he lost his left arm and healing factor during a fight with Apocalypse in his time. As seen in the photo above, he only popped three claws from his right arm similar to Jackman's photo.
Aside from Cable, another theory about Jackman's departure in the X-Men franchise is that he expressed his desire to have Wolverine join the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I like to think there’s that possibility for all of it, and I would even like to think more that it doesn’t happen out of necessity, y’know, when someone’s run it into the ground or something. I optimistically love the idea of “What the hell, Batman versus Iron Man versus Wolverine!” Let’s just chuck ‘em in," Jackman said.
"We’ll see what happens, but maybe as these things go on more and more they’ll want to and need to do all that stuff. I’m optimistic, I’d think it’d be great, but hey, it’s not my billions of dollars behind this promise. [laughs] It’s easy for us to speculate, “Why did they do that?!”
Jackman also teased of a possible fight between his character and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"There's no doubt he'd get in a fight with Hulk at some point. Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don't know how much fun to shoot it would be because I'm sure I'd be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal," Jackman told MoviePilot.
"Wolverine 3" will be shown in theaters on March 3, 2017.
