A new television series produced by former "TODAY' co-host Katie Couric is being pitched to various major TV networks, according to Variety. Actress Michelle Pfeiffer, last seen in 2013's "The Family" opposite Robert De Niro and Dianna Agron, is attached to take on the leading anchor role.
The as-of-yet untitled project, executive produced by Couric and "Two and a Half Men" EPs Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, is currently being shopped around at HBO, Showtime, AMC, Netflix, and Amazon.
Guymon Casady and Suzan Bymel of Television 360 are also attached as executive producers.
While the show's plot will not directly reflect the experiences of Katie Couric on 'TODAY,' it is set to explore the behind-the-scenes happenings of a morning news program. Of course, Katie will be on hand to provide inspiration and feedback to ensure it remains realistic, suggests Variety.
Diane English, famously known for helming the hit CBS show "Murphy Brown" starring Candice Bergen, is credited as the creator of the new comedy. Her former series, which ran from 1988 to 1998, also revolved around a fictional news anchor. She will also serve as a producer and showrunner.
The new series would mark a grand return to the spotlight for Michelle Pfeiffer, who has taken on very few acting jobs in the past decade. Still, this will hardly be her first foray into television.
The "Batman Returns" actress previously starred as a series regular in two hit series. Michelle Pfeiffer played the role of The Bombshell in 1979's "Delta House," as well as Samantha 'Sunshine' Jensen in 1980's "B.A.D. Cats."
