Bungie weekly update

Destiny fans rejoice! Bungie has confirmed that the next Destiny update is all set to roll out, along with two new few fun features.

On April 9, Bungie's community manager David "DeeJ" Dague announced on Bungie's blog that work on the next Destiny Update has been completed. According to DeeJ, the team is still working on a perfect day to land the new Update, however, he did reportedly say it will be very soon.

The studio has been drip-feeding information on what features are scheduled to be included in the much-awaited 1.1.2 update. DeeJ revealed the update will include some things Bungie hasn't detailed out yet, including PVP Ammunition, or the way ammo crates dictate the flow of a battle.

DeeJ confirmed that certain changes are being made to the crucible combat, including how Bungie intends to curb high-damage weapon encounters, according to Express. In addition, there are also a few fun features that the team has created on its own time.

Crucible Designer Kevin Yanes reportedly came out with strategies on how to balance things out in PVP using ammo distribution. According to Yanes, the recent update to the sandbox balance was the first step.

Talking about what he and his peers have noticed in the competitive arena over these past seven months of Destiny gameplay, Yanes said that creating a new system to manage ammo drops will allow the studio to adjust the Crucible experience without altering other activities in Destiny players' Director. Moreover, making ammo scarce and important will not only provide players with more chances but also more eventful encounters in Crucible.

On how much more scarce the Special Ammo become once 1.1.2 lands, Yanes said the Special Ammo will spawn less frequently, will take longer to pick up, there will be fewer crates placed on the map, and the bricks players will be provided with fewer ammo.

Just like with the Heavy Ammo, a player who opens a green crate without waiting for their teammates will deny them of the Special Ammo. In order to prevent this, Bungie raised the drop radius for teammates by a reasonable amount. Raising the drop radius will help players realize the significance of pulling a crate as soon as they could, while making sure teammates would still benefit from the drop.

The main thing that the team wanted to prevent in terms of Heavy Ammo, according to Yanes, was players are able to buffer their supply by sitting within range of a block without picking it up. He explained that doing this hurts players' ability to anticipate when the heavy ammo would be in play during a match. By introducing despawn conditions, the studio is making sure that players will have to acquire ammo as soon as it becomes available, or risk losing it altogether.

Players are also set to receive a new feature that will enable item locking, which means that players who want to protect something in their inventory from being destroyed will be able to lock it down. To do this, simply highlight the item with your cursor and click down on the right thumb-stick to lock an item. The item is safe until you unlock it.

Another new feature will enable players to show off their best exotic headgear while making their way around the Tower.

Senior Technical Artist Andrew Davis reportedly revealed that the Design Team was wondering if they could give players the option to show off their helmets while running around the Tower.

"We all agreed that it's important to give players every opportunity to show off the cool gear they've earned," Davis revealed.

Apparently, it turned out to be quite a quick UI task to turn helmets on in the Tower. After engineers came out with the code in short order, the team reportedly just had to figure out where to put the menu option. After discussing a number of locations in the UI, including Details screen, Character screen, Bungie then reportedly decided that the Setting menu was the most obvious and easiest place to control this new feature.

The team is still picking the perfect day to land the much-anticipated update. However, community manager DeeJ assured that he will Tweet out a signal as soon as Bungie has a release plan.
