George R.R. Martin has yet to finish writing "The Winds Of Winter," but the author is determined to deliver the latest "A Song of Ice And Fire" series installment soon. In the mean time, he's willing to tease fans with some spoilers!
The writer even went so far at to promise Entertainment Weekly that "The Winds Of Winter" release date would fall before the Season 6 premiere of "Game Of Thrones," the hit HBO show the series is based upon.
This makes the approximate release date April 2016 at the latest (based on past season premiere dates), meaning fans have less than a year of waiting ahead of them before the book hits shelves worldwide.
Still, George R.R. Martin is desperate to complete the new novel.
"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews-anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," the author told Entertainment Weekly.
In fact, Martin has also declined to participate in script writing for the fifth and sixth season of "Game Of Thrones" in order to dedicate all of his time and energy into finishing "The Winds Of Winter" by his promised release date.
While the best-selling writer recently gave loyal fans a huge surprise spoiler when he released an excerpt from the book called "Alayne" on his website, little else is known about the upcoming novel.
But George R.R. Martin promises a giant plot "twist" in the new installment of the series.
"This is going to drive your readers crazy, but I love it. I'm still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It's a great twist," teased the author of the "A Song of Ice And Fire" books.
"It's easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations...This is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved... it all makes sense. But it's nothing I've ever thought of before," explained the legend.
Sadly, however, the "twist" spoiler will not affect "Game Of Thrones."
"It's nothing they can do in the show, because the show has already-on this particular character-made a couple decisions that will preclude it, where in my case I have not made those decisions," revealed Martin as he spoke about the spoiler.
