Popular smartphone brand OnePlus has announced that the OnePlus One is now available to everyone, even without an invite.
The OnePlus One made waves in the smartphone space by offering a chic handset for just $299 off contract. The only drawback was reportedly the difficulty involved in actually buying one. The phone's Chinese maker OnePlus opted to make sales of the One invitation-only. But, not anymore, TheVerge noted.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the launch of One, OnePlus announced the One will be available with an invite. Forever.
OnePlus in a blog post confirmed that the company is opening up sales worldwide for everyone, every day of the week. This news comes as OnePlus feels more confident and mature enough to handle the increased complexity that comes along with opening up sales completely.
Moreover, OnePlus claims it has sold over 1 million handsets and has grown to more than 700 employees.
The company also announced the One's successor, the OnePlus 2, adding that the 2 will initially launch with invites, too. However, the experience they've gained with the One, the company will be far more prepared to make a similar transition with the OnePlus 2.
As OnePlus is committed to maintaining razor-thin margins to be able to give users as much value as possible, this drastically increases their risk, the company noted in the blog post.
With the OnePlus 2, the company expects challenges that come along with a brand new product, and the invite system will help them to manage that risk.
OnePlus, a global smartphone maker owned by Chinese firm Oppo has also announced a flat 50 percent discount on accessories - OnePlus Premium Matte Screen Protector, OnePlus Flip Cover (White), OnePlus JBL E1+ Earphones - along with the purchase of the OnePlus One until April 23, 2015.
