Rumors about the sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 neo-noir dystopian film "Blade Runner" are finally coming together. Reports claimed that Warner Bros had made an addition to the film's cast with Ryan Gosling landing a role in the highly anticipated sequel.

Contrary to previous reports, Ridley Scott will not return to "Blade Runner 2" as a director, but he will take on an executive produce role. Rumor has it, he will be replaced by "Prisoners" director Dennis Villanueve. Harrison Ford will reprise his role in the first "Blade Runner" film as Rick Deckard.

In an interview with MTV, Scott revealed that when Ford read the script for the "Blade Runner 2" movie, he was immediately on board and excited to start shooting.

"I sent him this [script], and he said it’s the best thing he’s ever read," Scott said.

"It’s very relevant to what happened in the first one," he added.

According to Variety, "The Notebook" star Ryan Gosling will also be part of "Blade Runner 2," however, it has yet to be determined what role he will play in the movie.

The film is set in a dystopian Los Angeles society in the year 2019, meaning that the sequel will take place decades after the original film. According to Fansided, the Earth is ravaged by squalor and poverty in this aforementioned society.

"Blade Runner 2" is yet to have a definite release date. This means that fans will have to wait for an indefinite amount of time to see Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling on the silver screen together.

Ford and Gosling do have projects of their own however.

Ryan Gosling is set to star alongside "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara in the Terrence Malik film "Weightless." While Harrison Ford is busy with "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."
