Call of Duty fans rejoice! Activision has announced the release date of the much-awaited "Black Ops 3" on Sunday, April 26.
The latest installment in the popular first-person shooter video game series is slated to come with new gameplay modes, multiplayer action, and more zombies. It will launch on Friday, November 6, Activision has confirmed.
Friday is a rather unusual day for a "Call of Duty" release because most video games, including the previous Black Ops games, were released on Tuesday in North America, according to Forbes.
According to Rob Kostich, Senior Vice President at Activision Publishing, Activision thought it would be really fun, as far as the fans are concerned, to release Black Ops 3 on a weekend.
With almost 100 million players to date, the Black Ops series is the most played in "Call of Duty" history, and the team at Treyarch is taking things to a new level. There's a lot more in this game across every mode of play.
For one, Zombies are back. Campaign has now been reimagined and gamers can now play cooperatively with their friends. Multiplayer also brings a ton of depth and new ideas to the gaming experience. Basically, giving fans enough time out of the gate in order to experience all the game has to offer made a lot of sense.
Specifically, players who have work or school constraints throughout the week can drive into the game, thanks to a Friday release. The big question is why does the industry, including Activision launch games on a Tuesday rather than on a Friday, when most players can jump in and start playing?
According to Kostich, Tuesday has been a date that has worked well for their retail partners. Moreover, Tuesday is also the day of the week that CDs and DVDs generally hit retail.
Apparently, the release date is not the only noticeable difference in this year's Call of Duty. The first full trailer of Black Ops III reveals the first details of the game's story campaign, which at present seems to be set completely in the near future. The approach is evidently different from last year's "Advance Warfare," although its only set a few years later in 2060.
According to Metro, there is no connection between the two games since they are both by different developers. Moreover, the focus in Black Ops III is on the Deus Ex style cyborg enhancements and robot soldiers.

The graphics look great, but the major innovation for the story mode is that gamers can play the whole thing in four-player co-op, including a two-player split screen option.
Do you think by releasing the game on a Friday, players get more time to drive into the game over the weekend? What do you think about the trailer? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
