Demetrious Johnson picked up his second straight submission win by defeating Kyoji Horiguchi, who was nearly able to go the distance with him at UFC 186.
Don't underestimate UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. Japanese mixed martial artist, Kyoji Horiguchi learned that lesson the hard way on April 25 at UFC 186. The challenger hung around in the main event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It even appeared Horiguchi was going to go the distance with the reigning UFC Flyweight Champion.
Johnson, however, applied an armbar in the fight's closing seconds and got the tap out at 4:59 of the final round, the latest finish in UFC history. This is Johnson's sixth successful title defense, MMAFighting noted.
Johnson, who is #3 in official UFC pound-for-pound rankings, said, "I had 25 minutes and took my time and I got it done."
With the win, Johnson has won eight in a row and is 12-1-1 in his past 14 fights. He only lost to then-UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in that run.
UFC 186: Quinton Jackson Vs Fabio Maldonado
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson made a successful promotional return against Fábio Maldonado at the co-main event.
Despite winning strong over Maldonado at UFC 186 via a unanimous decision, Rampage Jackson has a much bigger battle ahead of him, against former employer Bellator MMA, who'd like to retain his services, according to TheMMACorner.
That said, if Bellator succeeds and retains his services, they need to give Jackson a title shot immediately. Now that Rampage's training partner, Emanuel Newton, is no longer the Bellator Champ, it's the only action that makes sense. No doubt, he'd be their biggest name.
Although he might hate new champion Liam McGeary's style, business is business and "Jackson needs to be in a big fight," TheMMACorner noted.
The only other option for Rampage would be the bout with Tito Ortiz.
